Rockwool cancels Vyborg insulation plant expansion
22 March 2022Russia: Denmark-based Rockwool has cancelled plans for a Euro200m expansion to its Vyborg stone wool insulation plant in Russia. In a statement, the company said that it would continue its operations in the country, while also respecting international sanctions. Rockwool employs 1200 people in Russia, 10% of its total employees.
In defending its decision to maintain ordinary operations, the producer said “For Rockwool, there is no contradiction in standing side by side with the Ukrainian people and at the same time standing side by side with our Russian colleagues.” It added that it has donated to the Danish Red Cross to support Ukrainian victims of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Etex donates modular housing for flooding victims
21 December 2021Belgium: Etex has donated five sustainable modular housing units to families dispossessed by flooding in the summer of 2021. The company built the houses at Rochefort and Pepinster in two weeks and their assembly took 48 hours. Etex said that it plans to develop the construction method in future in order to meet needs and new trends in the housing sector.
Bernard Delvaux, chief executive officer of Etex said “It was important for us to donate our expertise through these five houses built in a circular way with a very low carbon footprint. Our modular construction technologies meet multiple housing needs around the world with the fast construction of affordable, well-insulated, high-quality and attractive living spaces.”
UK: The Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 motorsport team has terminated its sponsorship contract with Ireland-based Kingspan in response to public pressure. The team’s cars first displayed Kingspan sponsorship at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix on 3 - 5 December 2021. Grenfell Tower Fire survivors and bereaved families group Grenfell United protested against the display.
Kingspan withdrew fire test reports on its Kooltherm K15 phenolic insulation in November 2020 after admitting at the Grenfell inquiry that they may not reflect the actual product. Refurbishers used Kooltherm K15 in Grenfell’s exterior insulation system prior to the deadly fire at the tower in June 2017.
Mercedes-AMG Petronas said "Both parties have subsequently concluded that it is not appropriate for the partnership to move forward at the current point in time. We have therefore agreed that it will be discontinued with immediate effect."
Knauf Insulation supports monkey business in Dorset
19 June 2019UK: Knauf Insulation has donated a pallet of its Earthwool Loft Roll 44 glass mineral wool product to the Monkey World Ape Rescue Centre in Dorset. Pavilions housing primates at the site are being upgraded and expanded. They required adequate insulation to ensure a habitable environmental for the animals. The insulation was transported to Monkey World free of charge by builders’ merchants Bradford’s Building Supplies, Blandford, Dorset.
“We were delighted to support Monkey World in their vital work. Earthwool Loft Roll is a high performance glass mineral wool insulation, providing excellent thermal performance, which will help to keep the Pavilions warm in cold weather and cool in hot weather,” said Ian Boland, Area Sales Manager (South West) at Knauf Insulation.
